Mexico 68, the triumph of physics in the high jump

This post is to cellebrate the 50 anniversary or Mexico 68 Olympic Games, fist Latin American country to be an olympic host.

Athletics has had several tests in the Olympic Games editions since Athens 1896. One of these tests is the high jump in which the athlete tries to exceed a horizontal bar that rests on two supports. From the point of view of physics, the jump movement can be understood with the concept of the center of mass which is a geometric point that represents the movement of the body.

By getting that the center of mass overcomes the bar so the body can also overcome it, a good height jump is achieved. Using the technique of scissors and other techniques, the center of mass must exceed by much the height of the bar to be able to jump it, but in the technique known as "the Fosbury flop", the center of mass is outside and below the body during the jump and for this reason, the body can overcome more easily.

The first polyhedron in soccer football

The history of the Soccer World Cups began in 1930 when the first World Cup was carried out in Uruguay, host country and first champion. The rules of this sport were established in England at the end of the XIX century. Since then, the ball was made of leather clusters joined by hand.

The form of the traditional ball changed at the beginning of the 70s when a new geometric model revolutionized the history of this sport.

Late is never

The humanity's history is full with children and young prodigy. Mozart began to compose music from 5 years age. Galois inherited the humanity a world of new numbers (the complex numbers) little before his death at 20 years. Avicenna graduated from medical doctor at 18. Steven Spielberg began its career at 23 years old and Bill Gates was the richest man from the world at his 37 years old. They were some examples.

It is common that several people could be discouraged when they turn to see around them and compare themselves with other people who reached their goals younger than them.
Then, most of the people think that some goal is not for them, they say ‘it is no longer for my age’.
Other people, simply, do not give up.
